The Lake Monger Nature Play Space is a flagship project by DG Play, developed in collaboration with the Town of Cambridge’s landscape architects to create a nature-inspired playground destination in Western Australia. Drawing on the character of the lake and surrounding bushland, the project began with landscaping before moving into the design and construction of a diverse range of custom-built play elements. These include climbing towers, rope bridges, timber balancing logs, dual flying foxes, a giant nest swing, limestone rock play areas, and bespoke concrete slides, all designed to engage children of all ages.
A key focus of the project was grounding the space in its local environment, with locally sourced jarrah, timber, and limestone used throughout the build. Water play features, natural shade, and integrated landscaping ensure the playground blends into its lakeside surrounds while offering year-round appeal. More than just a play area, the finished space has become a community hub where families gather, children explore, and neighbours connect in a safe, creative, and inspiring outdoor setting.
The Wilderness Walk is a nature-inspired play space created by DG Play in partnership with a local school community in Hillarys, Western Australia. At its centrepiece is a custom-designed timber play structure featuring interconnecting bridges, climbing nets, and elevated walkways that encourage movement, imagination, and teamwork among children. The space also incorporates balance logs, rope challenges, and slides, offering varied play experiences suited to a wide range of age groups and abilities.
Inclusivity was a central priority in the project’s design, with features such as an all-abilities carousel ensuring every child can participate. Natural materials, including jarrah decking, log edging, and mulch surfacing, help the playground blend warmly into its surroundings. The finished result is a vibrant, multi-layered environment that promotes physical activity, imaginative play, and social connection, reflecting the school community’s commitment to creating a space where every child has the opportunity to thrive.
The Dayton Daycare project is an early learning play space designed by DG Play in collaboration with Childscapes, purpose-built for younger children. The playground features timber climbing structures, nest swings, a climbing wall, and dedicated sand and water play areas, all set on soft white sand and surrounded by landscaped gardens. Large sail structures provide shade and year-round comfort, while pathways and natural rock edging create a safe, organic flow throughout the space.
Special attention was given to interactive elements that support early childhood development, including a mud kitchen and timber platforms designed to foster imaginative play and sensory learning. The construction draws on natural jarrah and log materials for durability and a warm aesthetic that ties seamlessly into the centre’s outdoor environment. The end result is a beautiful, practical space that supports children’s growth and exploration through nature-inspired play.
Big John Fort is a bold, adventure-focused playground structure by DG Play, designed to ignite children’s imaginations and encourage active, physical play. Constructed from robust jarrah timber with natural finishes, the fort has a warm, inviting presence that fits naturally within its outdoor setting. Its centrepiece is a 2100mm-high platform that children can reach via rope climbs, ladders, and a climbing wall, offering a real sense of achievement and adventure.
From the elevated platform, children can test their balance on rope bridges and take on multiple climbing challenges before making an exciting exit down the slide. Every element of the design is geared toward building confidence, coordination, and a spirit of exploration. Big John Fort combines lasting durability with high play value, creating a structure that encourages children to push their boundaries in a safe, natural environment.
